Princess in Christ-building Godly self esteem

Posted by Wendy on Friday Feb 18, 2011 Under Events

This event has been designed as an agent of change to inspire and educate girls about a wider definition of beauty and grow in their relationship with Christ

Do you know any girls, ages 8-12, who could benefit from learning the tools to build Godly self-esteem and develop a healthy body image?
Better yet, do you know any girls ages 8-12? Because I’m pretty sure everyone could have benefited from learning valuable tools about self esteem at such a crucial time as this age group.

This workshop will encourage discussions of self-esteem and how the media influences how girls feel about themselves. Hands on activities will equip young girls with tools to face the daily pressures of growing up in America in the midst of peer pressure and media. Girls will learn how to build a strong sense of self, identify positive and negative self-esteem influences, learn how to compliment each other beyond what they see on the outside, and begin tearing down strong holds that have prevented young girls from freely worshiping God and having a real and dynamic relationship with Christ.

Looking for something different to do this weekend?

Posted by Wendy on Friday Nov 26, 2010 Under Events
The Edgerton Model Train Room will celebrate its 60th with tours and a reception, as part of the Edgerton Center’s centennial celebration!

Within the city’s Edgerton Community Center is an historic model train room that dates back almost 60 years. The dazzling displays deftly depict Rochester and many of its natural and built landmarks, in all four seasons.

The Edgerton Model Railroad Room was launched on October 27, 1950, when Governor Thomas E. Dewey officially opened the “Model Railroad Heaven” with a ceremony that included his driving a miniature “golden spike” into the exhibit’s track!

The Model Railroad Room was created at the tail end of Rochester and America’s bustling train travel era. Although trains aren’t as commonplace in Rochester as they were back then, the magic and mystique of trains persists for many–young, old, or in between. The Edgerton Model Railroad Room is a must see– for train buffs, and for those who could be!

Tours will continue on Saturdays in December (4th,11th,18th) and during recess school winter recess week (12/20-12/23 and 12/27-12/30) from 11:00 a.m.- 2:00 p.m.  FREE

Edgerton Community Center, 41 Backus Street, at (585) 428-6769.

Stokoe Farm-Santa Sky Dives in Friday Afternoon

Posted by Wendy on Monday Nov 22, 2010 Under Events

We go every year to get our tree at our favorite place for pumpkins and trees.  Stokoe Farms in Scottsville, NY.  It is a cut your own tree farm, although they do offer a good selection of precut trees so you do have a choice.  But we always cut our own it’s more fun.  They have hay wagons that drive you out to the fields and drop you off by the type of tree of your choosing.  Then after you have cut down your tree they pick you back up and drive you back up the hill to get your tree shaken and baled for easier, less messy transportation.

Opening Day – Friday Nov. 26th (rain date Sat Nov. 27th)
For over 10 years Santa has been skydiving into Stokoe Farms to check on his reindeer, visit with the children, and spread Holiday cheer to all! Santa is expected to arrive around 1 PM, weather permitting. Rain date – Saturday, November 27th at 1 PM.  My kids just love this and it makes for fun memories.
