Brown’s Berry Patch

sdc10428Summer may be at a close but there’s still time to go enjoy Brown’s Berry Patch!  I took the girls there last week and we had a blast.  We went on Friday in the morning and stayed until we were rained out late in the afternoon.  Or we would have been there til closing.

What is Brown’s Berry Patch you wonder?  It is a family run pick your own fruit farm about an hour’s drive from Rochester, NY.  They offer nearly every berry you can think of; strawberries, sweet cherries, raspberries, blueberries, peaches, blackberries, currants, gooseberries, elderberries, apples, pumpkins & gourds, and quince.  Each in their own sdc10430season.  When we went last week blackberries, raspberries, and apples are all ripe and ready to pick.  You can buy 1quart and 4 quart containers to pick with, or you can bring your own from home.  They charge about $3.29 a pound for the berries.  Fortunately for me they didn’t weigh my kids before and after our picking.

But they offer so much more than just fruit picking.  They have an entire country store that offers a bit of everything.  All sorts of country homemade gifts, gourmet foods, prepicked fruits, jewelry, toys, candles, and more.  They also offer a kitchen, grill and bakery, which offers sandwiches, subs, salads, and wraps, as well as burgers, fries, and Zweigle’s red and white hots.  In addition to homemade icecream and homemade waffle cones.

sdc10432Our favorite part of the farm was the Barnyard Adventure.  Over the summer it’s open daily, but for the fall it’s open weekends only until Oct 31.  Some of the activities they offer are a giant slide, jumping pillow, swings, a sandbox, playhouse, stand-up teeter totter, water tables, straw bin, rope maze, duck races, pedal cars and other farm activities, along with assorted farm animals that you can pet and feed.  Our favorite were the goats up on the roof that literally pulled the can of food up the pulley all by themselves.  We were dying laughing.  The kids just loved it there and can’t wait to go again next year.

I said next year I should go with a friend so I could pick more fruit because the kids only sdc10433lasted a few minutes.  But if I brought a friend we could take turns watching each others kids while taking a turn to pick fruit.  And maybe next year I’d get the season pass and go a few times during the different berry seasons…
